A clearer way to begin meeting new people

Meeting new people often starts with uncertainty. Even when people are in the same room and open to conversation, it can still be unclear who to approach, what to say first, whether there is anything in common, or how to move on if the conversation does not go anywhere.

Ooverlap brings clarity to that exact moment. Instead of leaving you to navigate a room of strangers on your own, the event provides a quiet, reliable structure. You choose your conversation interests, follow simple meeting instructions on your phone, and step directly into a conversation with a specific shared topic or thoughtful question.

How the experience works

Step 01

Arrive and settle in

When you arrive at the venue, you receive a temporary physical event badge. This badge represents you for the evening, meaning you do not need to share your name, public profile, or contact information to participate.

Step 02

Share your interests

Next, using your phone’s browser, you answer a short questionnaire. By selecting the specific topics, activities, and experiences you genuinely enjoy, you tell the system exactly what you are open to discussing with others today.

Step 03

Follow your guide

The system then compares everyone's answers to organize a series of conversational rounds. For each round, your phone acts as a quiet navigator, telling you exactly where in the room to go and the person with which badge you need to find, entirely removing the stress of guessing who to approach.

Step 04

Begin with common ground

When you find your assigned conversation partner, you both look at your screens. The app reveals the specific interests you both selected, giving you shared topics and clear reasons to begin talking without having to invent the first sentence.

Step 05

Enjoy the conversation

With the introduction handled, you simply focus on the live, face-to-face chat. Because every conversation has a set time limit, the round eventually ends for everyone at once, giving you a natural and comfortable way to move on to the next person.

Connecting over specific details

Broad categories like "Movies" or "Fitness" are often too vague to spark a great conversation. Ooverlap helps you find overlaps that are specific enough to matter.

Step 1: Broad areas

What kinds of media do you enjoy watching, reading, or listening to?

Movies and TV shows
Music
Books and audiobooks
YouTube and live streams
Podcasts and audio shows

A simple entry point

First, you choose a broad area you are open to talking about.

Step 2: Specific interests

Which movie and TV genres do you enjoy?

Science fiction
Comedy
Documentaries and docuseries
Thriller and suspense
Action and adventure
Reality TV and competition shows

Specific enough to matter

Then, the app reveals more specific options inside that area.

Result

You both selected:

Science fictionComedy

"Among the movie and TV genres you have in common, what titles have stood out to you, and what keeps those kinds of stories interesting for you?"

A shared starting point

The result is not just a match. It is a concrete reason to begin a conversation.

Over 200 specific topics to connect over

Because the questionnaire adapts to your initial choices, you never have to scroll through irrelevant topics. You only answer questions about the areas you genuinely enjoy

Uncovering common ground through conversation

Another way the event helps conversations begin is through Discovery Questions.

Sometimes, the most interesting connections come from exploring how we see the world. A Discovery Question is a thoughtfully crafted prompt provided to both of you. These questions are designed to help you naturally uncover common ground, share stories, and invite relatable observations. They create a natural opening for a great chat.

What you may leave with

The event creates a structured path into meeting like-minded people, leaving the actual conversation open and human. By the end of the evening, you may leave with:

A collection of real conversations

Instead of just exchanging polite small talk all evening, you walk away having actually discussed things you care about with several different people.

Unexpected common ground

You leave with the satisfying realization that there are people right here in your city who share your specific niches, hobbies, and outlooks.

Energy instead of exhaustion

Because the event handles the hardest parts of socializing for you, you can leave feeling refreshed and inspired, rather than drained by the friction of meeting strangers.

Unforced connections

If you met someone great, you might leave with a new contact. If not, you still had a great evening—with zero digital obligations or awkward follow-ups.

Open to conversation, still in control

Ooverlap is built to support the moment of meeting, not to turn you into a profile or create a digital social trail. You can meet new people without handing your identity, contacts, or full set of answers to everyone in the room.

No names or profiles required

You do not provide your name, phone number, email, or photo to participate. During the event, you are simply identified by a temporary physical badge, such as "Green 4".

Your answers are not on display

Your full questionnaire is never shown as a public list. Other participants only see the specific shared interests relevant to the conversation they are having with you right now.

No contact info to participate

Joining an Ooverlap event does not require an email, phone number, or any contact information. The only time we store an email is if you voluntarily join the website waitlist — it is used only for occasional updates about Ooverlap test events and project news, never sold or shared, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

Continuing is your choice

There are no automatic friend requests or digital chats after the event. If a conversation feels worth continuing, you can exchange contact information directly in person. If not, the connection simply ends with the round.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Ooverlap is designed perfectly for people arriving on their own. The event structure ensures you always know where to go, whom to meet, and how to begin each conversation.

No. You do not need to download anything. During the event, you will simply use a web app through your phone’s browser.

Just bring yourself and a fully charged smartphone with internet access.

You will be welcomed, receive a temporary physical event badge, and be shown how to open the web app on your phone. From there, the app and the shared event structure will quietly guide you step by step.

No. Other participants do not see your full questionnaire. During a round, they only see the specific shared context that is relevant to that exact meeting.

Each conversation usually lasts around 10–15 minutes. This gives you enough time to get into a real topic, while still keeping the event moving so you can meet several different people.

That is completely okay. Each conversation has a natural time boundary, and everyone moves on together when the round ends. You do not have to force the conversation or find an awkward way to end it yourself.

If you do not have specific shared interests with someone in a round, you will receive a Discovery Question instead. These are thoughtful, open-ended prompts designed to help you easily start talking and uncover common ground during the chat itself.

No. Ooverlap is built to make the hardest part of meeting people—the beginning—much easier. Because the event organizes the introductions and provides starting topics, you do not have to rely on being naturally outgoing or starting conversations completely on your own.

No. Ooverlap is designed for meeting new people, discovering shared interests, and having organized, meaningful conversations. It is a platonic social format, not a dating event.
